There is a lot of controversy out there whether it's better for your dog to wear a harness or collar. It really depends on how your dog behaves while you are walking them. If you have an excited, hyper, or super friendly dog that pulls when walking we definitely recommend a harness. The harness will help prevent strain on the neck which can cause breathing problems, gagging/vomiting, and damage to the skin, neck, and spine. If your dog is constantly choking themselves with a collar while walking this can also result in strange behavior like being afraid of walks, accidents in the house, and just not wanting to go outside for walks. Harnesses also provide the comfort and security that the dog cannot slip out, a common problem with collars. Harnesses are commonly recommended for puppies since they have a lot of energy and pull when walking, but keep in mind if you want to train your dog to walk properly the harness encourages them to pull, teaching them the "wrong way" to walk. Not all dogs need a harness. If you have a dog that's calm, well trained, or are currently training collars are perfectly fine. Just be cautious of excessive pulling.
